Eye6 smart glasses improve vision in patients with AMD
Key Takeaways
- Eyedaptic has introduced Eye6 smart glasses with an AI virtual assistant to aid patients with age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
- The glasses are designed to improve patients’ vision and increase their ability to read, see faces and perform everyday tasks.
In a Healio Video Perspective from the Women in Ophthalmology Summer Symposium, Kelley Sheets, vice-president of marketing at Eyedaptic, gave an overview of the Eye6 wearable vision aid for patients with AMD. The glasses are designed to improve patients’ vision and increase their ability to read, see faces and perform everyday tasks. The device also features a virtual assistant called Ivy, which is fluent in 99 languages, according to Sheets.
The glasses are designed for patients with best corrected vision between 20/70 and 20/400 in their best eye. “What’s really amazing is when we work with patients and show them these glasses, on average they’re picking up around seven lines of vision, which is incredible,” she said.
“The implementation and integration of AI in visual assistive devices is truly groundbreaking,” Mitul Mehta, MD, the company’s chief medical officer, said in a press release. “With the Eye6, individuals with vision impairments now have a visual assistant to help them do everyday tasks and activities that weren’t possible before. They can ask Ivy to read a page to them or describe a room. With Ivy, the possibilities are endless, allowing individuals to remain independent and have a better quality of life.”
