It’s time for our Annual
Play in the Clay Ceramics Event!
Join us for our much-loved Annual Ceramics Event! This is a messy, marvelous afternoon where students ages 5 to 22 can explore their creativity by molding, shaping, and decorating their very own ceramic masterpieces. No artistic experience is necessary—just bring your imagination and be ready to feel the clay between your fingers!
What to Expect:
- Guided instruction on basic clay techniques (pinch pots, coils, sculpting).
- All materials provided, including tools and glazes.
- A fun, relaxed atmosphere perfect for making new friends!
🖐️ Feel the Creativity:
How Ceramics Strengthens the
Expanded Core Curriculum Skills
The tactile nature of working with clay provides a fantastic opportunity to naturally enhance essential ECC skills:
- Sensory Efficiency: This event is an intensive tactile learning experience! Students will improve their haptic perception as they manipulate the clay, learning to differentiate textures, recognize shapes, and gauge pressure through touch alone. This heightens their ability to use touch as a primary source of information.
- Orientation & Mobility: Though seated, students enhance their body concepts and fine motor skills by directing their hands, wrists, and fingers with purpose. They practice spatial concepts like “in front of,” “on top of,” “inside,” and “next to” as they build and shape their 3-D object.
- Independent Living Skills / Assistive Technology: Students will practice important organization and work-area management skills by keeping track of their tools, clay, and water. For older students, they may use adaptive tools (a form of AT) to etch or texture their pieces, building confidence in using modified equipment to achieve a desired outcome.
