Description

Vista Voyagers builds character, confidence, and independence in students through educational and fun community events. This is a great way to meet other students and families in our Vista community! All events are focused on the Expanded Core Curriculum.

⛸️ Glide into the Holidays! Youth Ice Skating Event!

We’re lacing up our skates for a festive afternoon on the ice. No experience? No problem! We’ll have support on and off the rink to make sure everyone has a blast.

❄️ Sharpen Your ECC Skills on the Ice! ⛸️

This event isn’t just about fun; it’s a great opportunity to practice key ECC skills in a real-world, social setting.

How this event will strengthen the following ECC Skills.

O&M: You’ll practice spatial awareness and balance as you move across the ice. You’ll learn to navigate a new environment, locate the entrance, exit, and rails, and move safely in a crowded space.

Sensory Efficiency: The rink is a rich environment for auditory and tactile learning. You’ll rely on listening skills to hear the music, other skaters, and instructions, and use your sense of touch to feel the cane (if used) or the skate-guide on the ice.

Recreation: Ice skating is a perfect opportunity to explore a new, adapted sport and discover a lifelong leisure activity, all while engaging in physical activity.

Social Interaction Skills: You’ll have a chance to initiate conversations with peers, practice appropriate communication skills, and navigate group activities with friends.

Self-Determination: You’ll be making personal choices—deciding when to take a break, how to ask for help, and setting your own small goals for movement, which builds self-advocacy and decision-making skills.

What to Bring: Warm layers, gloves (highly recommended for grip and warmth), and a great attitude!

Support: We will have staff, volunteers, and skate guides available on the ice to assist all skaters.

⛸️ Event Admission Details (Includes Skate Rental!)

Free Entry: Admission is free for all Vista Voyagers and one guest; staff and volunteers are also free.
