Vista Voyagers builds character, confidence, and independence in students through educational and fun community events. This is a great way to meet other students and families in our Vista community! All events are focused on the Expanded Core Curriculum.

All Aboard! Vista Voyagers Head to

Oak Meadow Park

Join us for a day of sun, exploration, and trains! The Vista Voyagers are headed to Oak Meadow Park in Los Gatos for an outdoor adventure filled with history, nature, and a bit of friendly competition.

This outing is a fantastic opportunity for students to practice their travel skills in a dynamic park setting while enjoying some classic local attractions. We’ll start our day with a ride on the historic Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad, feeling the rumble of the engine and hearing the whistle blow as we loop through the sensory filled park grounds.

What’s on the Agenda?

• The Wildcat Railroad: A sensory-rich train ride through the park.
• Nature Walk: A light, guided walk to practice O&M skills. sound localization, and navigating various outdoor terrains.
• Nature Scavenger Hunt: Students will use their senses to identify specific textures, scents, and sounds of the park to complete their challenge!
• Picnic & Socializing: We’ll gather for lunch and socialization with friends.

ECC Skills in Action

• Orientation and Mobility: Navigating open park spaces, identifying environmental landmarks (like the sound of the creek or the train whistle), and O&M skills on grass, dirt, and pavement.
• Sensory Efficiency: Using touch and smell to identify items during our nature scavenger hunt.
• Social Interaction: Working in teams for the hunt and engaging with peers in a relaxed, recreational setting.
• Recreation and Leisure: Exploring local accessible transit and park history as a fun way to stay active and connected to the community.
