
The Vista Voyagers are teaming up with Midpeninsula Regional Open Space (Midpen) for a specialized sensory exploration of the beautiful Skyline Ridge Preserve! This collaboration brings together our Voyager students and expert Midpen docents for a day of nature, learning, and outdoor skill-building.
Our day at the preserve will focus on experiencing the diverse ecosystems of the Santa Cruz Mountains through a guided, accessible lens.
Adventure Highlights
- Docent-Led Nature Walk: Explore the trails with knowledgeable Midpen docents who will share insights into the local flora, fauna, and geology of the ridge.
- Sensory Discovery: From the scent of aromatic sagebrush to the unique textures of California oaks, we will use our senses to connect with the natural world.
- Alpine Pond & Beyond: Experience the peaceful environment of the preserve’s ponds and ridges, practicing navigation in a serene outdoor setting.
- Community Connection: Work alongside docents and fellow Voyagers to foster a deeper appreciation for our local open spaces.
ECC Skills in Action
- Orientation and Mobility: Practicing trail navigation, shore-lining natural paths, and using auditory cues to identify environmental landmarks in an open space setting.
- Sensory Efficiency: Utilizing tactile and olfactory senses to identify native plants and wildlife signs during the docent-led exploration.
- Social Interaction Skills: Engaging with community experts and docents, practicing clear communication and group collaboration in a public park.
- Recreation and Leisure: Discovering accessible ways to enjoy California’s regional preserves, promoting physical activity and lifelong outdoor hobbies.

- What to Bring: Sturdy walking shoes, layers for changing ridge weather, a water bottle, and sunscreen.
