The Why
Clients join Vista Center to find healing, support, and a welcoming community as they navigate their vision loss journey. Vista Center’s mission is to empower people with vision loss to live independently and confidently.
How Clients Engage:
Clients successfully move through their journey by engaging in the following mindset:
- Taking Ownership of Their Journey – Commit to learning, practicing new skills, and advocating for personal needs.
- Engaging with Respect – Communicate kindly with staff, volunteers, and fellow clients.
- Collaborating with Staff – Independence is a shared effort. Clients and staff work together to build confidence and skills.
- Embracing Change and Innovation – Be open to new technology, programs, and strategies that enhance independence and community connection.
- Being Part of the Community – Support and encourage others navigating vision loss.
What This Means in Action:
- A supportive environment benefits everyone, build this community by leading with respect, kindness, and love.
- Show up and stay engaged in the community, training, and programs.
- Ask for help when needed and then apply the skills learned.
- Provide feedback in a kind and respectful manner to help Vista Center improve services.

Client Code of Conduct
At Vista Center, we believe in creating a respectful, safe, and welcoming space for everyone. As clients and participants, we understand it is a privilege to attend Vista Center, and we will uphold the following commitments:
1. We Will Respect Others
- We will treat all staff, volunteers, and fellow participants with kindness, courtesy, and respect.
- We will listen to others without interrupting or raising our voices.
- We will avoid using offensive, threatening, or discriminatory language or behavior. We will not yell at others.
2. We Will Help Keep Everyone Safe
- We will follow safety instructions given by staff or volunteers.
- We will report any unsafe situations, harassment, or concerns to staff right away.
- We will not bring weapons, illegal substances, or dangerous items to the center.
3. We Will Use the Facilities Responsibly
- We will use equipment and resources for their intended purposes.
- We will clean up after ourselves in shared spaces like dining areas or activity rooms.
- We will follow any posted rules for specific rooms or equipment.
4. We Will Participate Respectfully
- We will sign in for programs or services as needed.
- We will let the center know in advance if we cannot attend a scheduled service or appointment.
- We will join group activities in a way that is respectful and not disruptive.
5. We Will Respect Privacy
- We will respect the privacy of others and will not share their personal information without permission.
- We will keep what is shared in support groups or counseling sessions confidential.
6. We Will Not Harass or Abuse Anyone
- We will not use physical, verbal, emotional, or sexual harassment or abuse toward anyone.
- We understand that bullying or intimidating others is not acceptable.
7. We Will Resolve Conflicts Peacefully
- We will work to resolve any conflicts calmly and respectfully, with the help of staff if needed.
- We will avoid retaliation or escalating problems with others.
8. We Will Stay Substance-Free
- We will not bring alcohol, illegal drugs, or substances into the center (unless medically prescribed).
9. We Understand the Consequences
- We understand that if we do not follow this Code of Conduct, we may receive a warning, be temporarily suspended, or lose the opportunity to participate in programs or services.
We Agree
By joining the programs and services at Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired, we agree to follow this Code of Conduct to help make this a positive community for everyone.
