Pre-event self-guided tour of the Computer History Museum exhibits Revolution: The First 2000 Years of Computing and Make Software: Change the World!

Event doors open at the Hahn Auditorium (upstairs to the left). Visit with Mike Shebanek, see friends and colleagues, and enjoy an array of catered hors d’oeuvres. Fine wines, beer and non-alcoholic beverages including coffee and tea provided. Vegan and vegetarian options available.


6:45 pm

Enjoy a fascinating discussion with Mike Shebanek about his remarkable career, moderated by Vista’s Alice Turner.

About the Honoree

Mike Shebanek photo

Honoree Mike Shebanek has been a leader in accessibility technology throughout his career spanning over 30 years. He is currently the head of accessibility at Facebook, and has held product and accessibility leadership roles at Apple, Verizon Media, and Yahoo. 

As head of accessibility at Facebook, Mike leads efforts to make the digital world inclusive for people with disabilities. Mike’s longtime passion in accessibility began during his role at Apple as product manager for the original iMac and iPad. He was a member of the team that developed VoiceOver, along with other accessibility features now found in every Mac, iPad and iPhone.

A ceaseless evangelist, Mike was instrumental in founding several industrywide accessibility initiatives including Teach Access, the Disability Collection, and XR Access, he holds several technology patents and is an author and guest speaker.

COVID-19 Precautions

We comply with current public health rules for in-person events.
Our large venue allows ample room for social distancing between guests.
CHM policy (see below) requires that all guests wear masks and provide proof of vaccination or recent negative test upon arrival.
Hand sanitizer will be available.

Guests, volunteers and staff are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 with a minimum of two weeks since their last shot, or have a negative COVID-19 test result within 72 hours of attending the event. Upon entry, guests and attendees must provide a valid photo ID and proof of full COVID-19 vaccination, which can be:

  • An original, copy or picture of your CDC vaccination card
  • Personal digital COVID-19 vaccine record issued by the State of California or by an approved private company
  • Proof of a negative COVID-19 test result per the guideline. The test result cannot be a home test.

About the Event

This event is part of the Vista Center-initiated Sight Tech Global conference, founded in 2020 to advocate for making tech accessible for people with vision loss. Bringing together an incredible array of accessibility leaders, the hugely successful 2-day conference has attracted over 13,000 viewers from over 70 countries. Believing that vision loss is no longer a barrier to independence, Vista Center – a 501(3)(c) non-profit organization – empowers individuals who are blind or visually impaired to embrace life to the fullest through evaluation, counseling, education and training.

Vista Center serves over 3,700 people aged 3-107 every year from three Bay Area locations: Palo Alto, Santa Cruz and San Jose.
