Public Transportation

For those travelling by bus, request the driver to stop at "Mission Drive."

1)  When travelling inbound on the #71 bus from Watsonville to Santa Cruz - the metal bus bench is located approximately 50 feet past the intersection of Soquel Drive and Mission Drive.  After de boarding the bus, turn right and walk 30 seconds or less back to the corner.  Turn left at the corner to walk north up Mission Drive.  Now skip to the third paragraph.

2)  When travelling outbound on the #71 bus from Santa Cruz to Watsonville - the wooden bus bench is located approximately 70 feet past the intersection of Soquel Drive and Mission Drive.  After de boarding the bus, turn right and walk 30 seconds or less back to the corner.  Continue west, crossing Mission Drive with the audible signal sounding a "chirp."  After crossing, turn right to cross Soquel Drive.  Facing north, the audible signal will sound a "cuckoo" at the start of the pedestrian crossing interval.  After crossing, you will be on the north-west corner of the intersection.  Continue walking north up Mission Drive.

3)  The walk up Mission Drive takes about two and a half to three minutes.  You will cross a total of 8 driveways.  The physical features that one might encounter along the way include a telephone guy wire near the corner of Soquel Ave., then two parking lot driveways, two driveways that are not used, two more active driveways, a fire hydrant, another two active driveways, followed by lifted pavement just before a telephone pole in the center of the sidewalk.  The telephone pole is the primary landmark to identify your arrival at the driveway into Vista Center.  Turn left away from Mission Drive.  The walkway between Mission Drive and Vista Center includes two openings for parking lots on the left.  There are currently curbs, not ramps, at these locations.  Plans are under way to modify the walkways with wheelchair ramps in the near future.  After crossing the second parking lot opening, cane users should trail on the left to locate the concrete ramp that parallels the building.  Take the ramp up along the building into the far corner of the setback doorways.  The second door is your destination.  Welcome to Vista Center Santa Cruz!
